Project Title

Energising Fire Protection at Europe’s Largest Battery Manufacturing Plant

Location

Skellefteå, northern Sweden

Market

Civil Engineering and Infrastructure

Project Value

£3 billion

The COP26 Summit set a global agreement declaring that all cars and vans must produce zero emissions by 2040. This landmark target means that electric and hybrid vehicle use in the United Kingdom is forecast to grow to 23.2 million by 2032 – a significant increase from just 400,000 in 2021.

This increase in electric vehicles will create an enormous demand for high-powered batteries. That’s why Bull Products has commenced a partnership, creating a fire safety solution to aid the construction of Europe’s largest battery plant. Located in Skellefteå, northern Sweden, the facility will manufacture batteries for electric vehicles. The facility will cost around £3 billion to build and, when complete, will commence its operations at an enormous scale. It will be located across an area of around 40 football fields and will employ up to 3,000 people.

The facility is currently in the construction phase, allowing Bull Products to provide a robust and premium fire safety service for the facility’s construction workers. Bull has supplied over 200 SiteProtect alarm call point units that have been integrated with the SiteProtect 1 system. The SiteProtect can link up to 480 individual devices in 15 different zones across the site, including fire alarm call points, first aid alert points, smoke detectors, heat detectors, combined fire call points and first aid alert alarms and interface units. The SiteProtect solution will ensure effective fire safety for the facility’s valuable on-site assets and will firmly protect the lives of all its staff.

Within the facility, Bull Products has worked in close collaboration with Intellity AS, a Norwegian company providing temporary security and safety solutions, and Presto Brandsäkerhet AB, the largest provider of fire safety services in Sweden. Thanks to this successful working relationship, Bull will help to protect this valuable and globally significant facility.

“We are delighted to work on this large-scale project to support the world’s journey to a zero-carbon future. This contract aligns perfectly with Bull’s commitment to sustainability – not only are we pursuing activities to reduce our own carbon emission, but we have developed products and solutions that help our customers reduce their carbon footprint too. We couldn’t be more excited to continue to embrace sustainable outcomes in the years ahead.”
